Scott Josephson- Apple (Contact Information) Apple in Education-

App needed iBooks
How does it work?
ibooks store button found in the lefthand corner of the app. EPub file. Can use PAGES to create an EPub file.
It allows you to use built in features:,
  • search
  • highlighting/notes
  • definition look up
Where do we find textbooks? When go to app store and look for categories, then textbook. Pearson, McGraw Hill, Houghton Mifflin, publishers are working to make textbooks digital. However, they are to be made more interactive then the textbooks' paper counterpart.

How It Works

Buy apps and books

Through the Volume Purchase Program Education Store, your institution’s Program Facilitators can purchase apps and books in volume, using a credit card, PCard, or Apple Volume Vouchers.
===Get and distribute codes===
After making a purchase, Program Facilitators receive a unique code for each app or book. Codes can then be distributed to students, teachers, administrators, or anyone at the institution who will be using the apps or books.
Visit the Volume Purchase Program

Education Store
===Redeem codes===
Once they have their codes, end users go to the iTunes Store to redeem them. They just enter the code and download the apps or books to their devices.
Redeem codes

The model changes with textbooks. The cost is much less 14.99. The student uses a redemption code for the textbook- so the student owns t he book. Any updates to the book are made by students on any of their devices. Student can also make notes/highlights to their own book. Finger becomes the highlighter. Can just click or tap on a word and type in your note. There is a notepad icon on the top of the page, wherever a note is made. Then study notes are created. Instant study cards. Each glossary word is then created into a study cards.

Study Cards

All your notes and highlights automatically appear on study cards. Flip them over and find the definition of a glossary term or the note attached to the highlighted passage. Choose which highlight colors to review, and include chapter vocabulary from the glossary — automatically. To make sure you really know your stuff, you can shuffle your cards to study.

Textbooks have movies, animations, etc. very different from old school textbooks.......None of it is using the Internet. It is downloaded to your iPad.
Also at the end of each chapter is a review.

Ibooks Author

external image placeholder?w=NaN&h=NaN

Gives you the same software that the publisher uses to create textbooks for you to create your own textbooks. Can bring in keynote, pages, etc. Can create widgets, multiple choice questions for review at the end of the chapter.

Very easy to use.....
